In short

How much does website design cost in the UK?

In the UK, a small business website usually costs £1,500 to £8,000 with a freelancer and £5,000 to £30,000 with an agency, depending on how much is custom. DIY builders cost £10 to £50 a month plus your time. At Devute, bespoke website design starts at £2,400, with a fixed quote after a free audit and before any work starts.

Most business websites fail quietly. They look fine, but a visitor can't tell what you do, what it costs or how to start, so they leave and ring someone else. Our website design starts with the message and the route to an enquiry, then designs around it. Every page is built to be fast, easy to edit and ready for Google and AI search from launch day.

Who it’s for

Small and medium-sized UK businesses whose site no longer matches what they sell, start-ups launching a first proper site, and anyone stuck with a template they can't edit. We also redesign sites for firms that have outgrown Wix, Squarespace or an old WordPress theme.

02 / Capabilities

What Website Design covers.

01

Discovery and messaging

We start with who your customers are, what they search for and why they choose you. The page structure and the words come first, so the design has something worth saying.

02

Bespoke design, not a template

A visual identity that belongs to you, designed in Figma and signed off page by page before we build. Mobile layouts are designed, not left to collapse.

03

Conversion-led page layouts

Clear calls to action, prices where you're happy to show them, trust signals, short forms and booking or call buttons in the places people look for them.

04

Built for speed

Next.js or well-engineered WordPress, optimised images and clean code. Fast pages rank better, cost less in ads and keep visitors on the page.

05

SEO and AI search foundations

Keyword-mapped pages, titles and meta descriptions, schema, sitemaps, redirects from your old URLs and answer-first copy that AI assistants can quote.

06

A CMS your team can use

Edit text, images, team members, case studies and blog posts yourself, with guard rails that stop the layout breaking.

07

Accessibility and compliance

Designed towards WCAG 2.2 AA, with cookie consent, privacy pages and forms that respect UK GDPR.

How much does a website cost for a small business in the UK?

Most small business websites in the UK cost £1,500 to £8,000 with a freelancer and £5,000 to £30,000 with an agency. Our bespoke website design starts at £2,400 for a starter site of up to six pages. You get a fixed quote after a free audit, so the price doesn't move once work starts.

How long does it take to design a website?

A typical small business website takes four to six weeks from kick-off to launch. Larger sites with custom features take eight to twelve weeks. The biggest variable is content: if your text and photos are ready, the project moves faster. We show you progress in weekly demos.

What's the difference between website design and web development?

Website design covers how the site looks, reads and guides visitors to enquire: layout, branding, copy structure and user journeys. Web development is the build behind it: code, CMS, integrations and performance. We do both in-house, so the design you approve is the site you get.

Do you design websites on WordPress?

Yes, when it's the right fit. We build on WordPress for teams that want a familiar editor, and on Next.js for sites where speed, security and custom features matter more. We recommend one in the free audit and explain why.

Will my new website be SEO friendly?

Yes. Every site launches with keyword-mapped pages, titles, meta descriptions, schema markup, an XML sitemap, fast load times and redirects from your old URLs. We also write key sections answer-first so AI assistants like ChatGPT and Gemini can quote them.

Can you redesign my existing website without losing Google rankings?

Yes. We crawl the current site, map every old URL to its new home, keep the content that ranks and set up 301 redirects before launch. Then we watch Search Console for the following weeks and fix anything that slips.

Do I own the website once it's built?

Yes. You own the design, the content and the code, and we hand over the repository and logins. Hosting with us is optional; we include three months of care after launch so nothing is left unattended.

Do you work with businesses outside the UK?

Yes. We're a UK company and most clients are in the UK, but we design and build websites for businesses in the US, Europe, the Middle East and Australia. We work in your time zone for calls and quote in pounds, dollars or euros.
